Wix Migration Questions, Answered

Can you export a Wix website to WordPress?

Not directly — Wix provides no full site export by design. Migration means rebuilding the site in WordPress while transferring all your content, then redirecting every old URL to the new one. It’s more work than an export button, which is exactly why the SEO-safe version is worth hiring out.

Can I keep my domain?

Yes, always. If your domain is registered elsewhere, it’s simply pointed at the new site. If you bought it through Wix, it can be transferred out (after Wix’s initial 60-day registration lock) or kept at Wix and pointed at WordPress — either way, you keep it.

Will my website go down during the migration?

No. Your Wix site stays live and untouched while the WordPress version is built on staging. The final switch is a DNS change that takes effect in under an hour, done at an off-peak time.

Is WordPress harder to use than Wix?

Editing-wise, no — I build in Elementor, which gives you the same drag-and-drop editing Wix does, plus a recorded walkthrough of your specific site. The difference is what’s behind the editor: on WordPress you own it all.

Will I lose my Google rankings when I leave Wix?

Not if the migration is done properly.
